G. 957. Written down 1936. Smedal had the slått from Kjetil Håvardson, of Møsstrond, Rauland, in Telemark. 98a-c are variants. These slåtts belong to the Kivlemøy cycle, of which at least seven slåtts are known to exist. See Lindeman N.Fj. No 213, Halv. 16 and 17. The legend of the Kivle maidens, who blew their horns and disturbed the service, so that the clergyman in his wrath turned them to stone, occurs in a number of variants. See A. Faye - Norske Folkesagn, Christiania 1844, p. 232; Tvedten - Sagn fra lelemarken, pp. 94- 96; R. Berge - Norsk Bondeliv i Segn og Sogu, Christiania 1910, pp. 44-45, and p. 61; I. Aasen - Norske Minnestykker by J. Lindberg, Christiania 1923, p. 75: and Numedal, Tidsskrift for folkeminne, 1915-16, p. 96.
