COMMENTS
G. 35. Written down 1939 from an NRK recording. Haugerud had the slått from Knut Dale, of Tinn, Telemark. Cf. Halv. No. 13. According to Torkjell Haugerud Signe Skuldal fell off her horse and broke her hip. She was carried home and put to bed, but she told the others to feast and dance and enjoy themselves. And to give more life to the affair she sang this slått. But the broken hip was very painful, and she could not help moaning. This is expressed in a phrase in the slått where 6/8 and 3/8 time alternate (see bar 43). The 3/8 time gives the impression of someone suffering great pain in the middle of the song. B.s. Spellmenn, Telemark, p. 174.
