CT chest
This is a computed tomography examination using X-rays. Parallell axial images are obtained. Before scanning it has to be decided the thickness of the slices and the distance between them.
Intravenous contrast medium is often used during scanning and images are obtained during the infusion to demonstrate the arteries and the veins
The images are presented as a pile of parallell slices from top to bottom of the lungs. The images should be presented in two series, one with mediastinum window and one with lund window. These two presentations are part of the post processing and gives the intepretator good opportunities to study both the soft tissue of the mediatinum and the lung parenchyma. Additional settings are possible to study the bones, all obtained from the same scanning.
The examinations is beeing used for patients with lung tumors, diseases of the aorta, some lung diseases, and in trauma patients.
